Yellow Pages

Is there any application the iPhone does not have at the moment? When applications first become available to the public it was basic video games and a few gimmicks you could download.

We are now beginning to see that list grow rapidly with GPS systems, music programmes and now the Yellow Pages all available on the iPhone and the iPod Touch.

After being launched less than a week ago, the Yellow Pages application has hit huge popularity being downloaded 30,000 times and sitting at number one on the Apple Lifestyle category.
The free application includes search by name or type, with GPS capabilities to help identify nearby businesses.

Sandeep Baruah, Group Manager of Yellow Pages Online and Mobile Products, said the success of the iPhone has enabled the application, and the business to blossom.
“Based on people’s usage of Yellow Pages Mobile, we know that iPhone users view about one and a half times as many business listings than users of other mobile devices and they are twice as likely to place a call to an advertiser once they’ve found what they’re looking for,” Mr Baruah said.
“Given the mobility of people when using these devices, it’s not surprising to see the most popular Yellow Pages searches on mobile devices are for businesses people need when they are on the go such as florists, pizza outlets, restaurants, taxis, accommodation, doctors, dentists and hairdressers.”

While the application has been very well received by the public, some criticisms still exist, claiming it is just as quick to access Yellow Pages using the IPhone’s internet  and that the maps are unable to be zoomed in, or out, on.

Regardless, Yellow Pages is a great little application, and one which will let your fingers do the talking.
