The Email app on the iPhone is another impressive addition to its collection of communication solutions. When a quick chat isn’t suitable, just send a message through the iPhone’s Email app.
While the Apple iPhone doesn’t have quite the same offerings as a BlackBerry, the latest firmware that adds Microsoft Exchange Push Email Support and enterprise-level security measures means that Apple’s email solution is growing more attractive every day.
Setting Up Email
Setting up email accounts on the iPhone is quite a pleasant experience, with presets for Gmail, Yahoo! Mail, Mobile Me and AOL, plus support for any POP3, IMAP or Exchange email account.
To get started setting up an email account with one of the presets, simply pres son your selected email provider in the Add Account menu, enter your information and press Save. If you get a pop-up error message saying that your iPhone can’t connect it, it may be because of the Firewall on your Wi-Fi network. Try again without SSL switched on, but that will decrease the level of security on your account.
To set up a POP3 or IMAP email account, it can be done but things are slightly more complicated. Click on the Other button at the bottom of the Add Account screen, then select the appropriate option (for most ISP email accounts you’ll need to choose POP). Apart from typing in your name, email address and account description, you’ll need to obtain a number of settings from your email provider to complete the Incoming and Outgoing Mail Server sections. Once you’ve done that, hit Save to go to your inbox.
