Common iPhone Issues

Having trouble with your iPhone? There are several common problems that all iPhone owners experience at some stage. It doesn’t mean send it back to the shop, rather take a minute to read about the issue and see if you can fix it yourself with a quick reset. Here are some of the common issues:

Problem scenario #1: Frozen or non-responsive iPhone
Is the battery charged? Are you using a high-powered USB port? You should only use high powered USB ports to charge your iPhone otherwise its battery life will be diminished.

If you are sure that your iPhone is fully charged, try restarting it. To do this, hold the sleep/wake button and wait for a red-coloured slider to appear. Then slide your finger across this red slider and this will tunr off the unit. Wait at least ten seconds before you restart the iPhone. Restart it by holding the sleep/wake button until you see the Apple logo.

Problem scenario #2: iPhone application locked up
Press the home button and hold it for 6 seconds or so. You should be given the option to cancel the program that locked up. Then reset your iPhone.

To reset your iPhone, press and hold the wake/sleep button and the home button at the same time. Keep holding these two buttons down at the same time until the Apple logo appears. Ignore any other symbols that appear. It is important to wait for the Apple logo before releasing the two buttons.

Problem scenario #3: iPhone not synced properly
If an iPhone hasn’t been synced properly, it may experience problems. You will be required to do more than a simple restart. Connect your iPhone to your computer and open the iTunes browser. Change your sync options for each of the following categories: contacts, Podcasts, videos and music. You may have to remove several files and re-sync the iPhone to see if it returns running normally.

Problem scenario #4: Resetting doesn’t rectify my problem
If none of the above procedures work when troubleshooting your iPhone issues, you may have to perform a soft reset to restore its original settings.

In the home screen of the iPhone go to the Settings menu. Touch General, then Reset, then Reset All Settings. This will restore everything but keep all your files and documents intact.

If you are still having problems, you may be forced to restore the iPhone completely, giving it a total format and removing all your data. This will unfortunately mean you need to add everything back on after you’ve completed the restore process, but it will more than likely rectify any software issues you are having.

To restore your iPhone, open iTunes and click on the iPhone summary page. Press the Restore button. Everything on your iPhone will be erased, so use this option with care.

For more help with iPhone issues, the best option is to go to the Apple website and follow their various troubleshooting guides. Alternatively, if your iPhone is still under warranty you can return it to the manufacturer.
